Well, here we are, the big day is tomorrow. Hopefully you’re nearing the end of your to-do-list and on your way to pouring yourself a large glass of wine – I certainly am.

However, there are always some last minute jobs that spring to mind and, if decorating your Christmas table is one of them, then this is the blog for you. Read on for some tips on items you can ‘shop’ from your home to create a beautiful tablescape.

Oranges , figs , pomegranates

Have your brought any festive fruit ? Have a rummage through your fridge and fruit bowls. Oranges, figs and pomegranates are often associated with Christmas and all have a lovely scent. Plus food is a fab way to decorate a table as (obviously it’s edible!) but it also reminds me of those epic period-drama banquet scenes. For an extra festive scent, try pushing cloves into the oranges.

Christmas Tree pine

Is your Christmas Tree pushed into a corner? If so, you can probably squeeze around the back and pinch a few branches without them being noticed. Or, if you have access to woodland, go for a wander and forage some greenery. Look our for pine, ivy, mistletoe and holly. All these can be used to make fantastic table runners or, perhaps for the more adventurous, a foliage cloud.

Baubles and Christmas Ornaments

I’m sure I’m not the only person who usually has some surplus decorations. Well, your Christmas table is a great place to give them a home. Use baubles and/or ornaments to create a Christmassy scene down the center of your table. These can be combined with foliage or a fabric table runner for added texture.

Fairy Lights

I love fairy lights whatever time of the year, but Christmas really gives me an excuse to light up every gloomy nook with some twinkly lights. If you have a shorter set of fairy lights (I’m not talking about 10m tree lights) then they can add a lovely glow to your tablescape without the use of candles. If you’re using any sparkly decorations, try and place them near the bulbs so they catch the light and twinkle even more.

Candles

Have a hunt around your home for any candles (try to stay away from scented ones) and candlesticks. Don’t worry if they don’t match or if they are different types of candle, taper candles can mix well with pillar candles and tealights are super versatile. If your candle holders are made of a similar material then group these together for some cohesiveness.

Use your food

Create an awesome feast by putting extra thought into how you serve your meal. Put more items into dishes and arrange them down the centre of the table. Use things like small logs or chopping boards to create different levels to display the food on – this is visually more interesting. If you have managed to muster any Christmas decorations, foliage or lights then these can be squeezed in between dishes as filler.

So those are my quick-fix ideas on what you can use from your home to create a beautiful Christmas tablescape. Nothing groundbreaking I know, but often the simplest ideas are the best!

Wishing you all a fabulous Christmas full of all the good things!
